    Training Support Activity Europe

Soldiers and civilian members assigned to the 405th Army Field Support Battalion-Africa, the 839th Transportation Battalion, the Military Police Detachment Provost Marshal, the 731st Munitions Squadron, U.S. Air Force, and the Garrison Chaplain Office, along with their family members, clean, restore and pay tribute by laying flowers at the headstones of U.S. service members at the Old English Cemetery in Livorno, Italy, May 6, 2026. More than two centuries after their deaths, three early American military heroes have not been forgotten: U.S. Marine Corps Capt. James McKnight, brother-in-law of the legendary Commodore Stephen Decatur, who died in Livorno in 1802; U.S. Army Capt. Henry De Butts, who rode alongside Gen. Anthony Wayne at the Battle of Fallen Timbers (1794) and died in Sarzana in 1801; and U.S. Navy Capt. Thomas Gamble, who was severely wounded in the opening naval battle of the War of 1812 aboard the USS President and died in Pisa in 1818. (U.S. Army photo by Elena Baladelli)
