U.S. Army Soldier Staff Sgt. Cale Splivalo, Squad Leader from The 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), Team 3, takes part in a 12-mile ruck march on Fort A.P. Hill, Va., May 5, 2026. The ruck march was part of Day 1 of the 2026 Military District of Washington (MDW) Best Squad Competition, which involved three teams of five-person squads from the across MDW. The first day of the competition began with the Expert Physical Fitness Assessment and a timed 12-mile foot march.
