A U.S. Army Tomb Guard, the Relief Commander, with the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) announces the changing of the guard, requesting the crowd stand and remain silent at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, April 30, 2026. The changing of the guard is a ceremony where tomb guards exchange responsibility of guarding the tomb, the incoming guard is carefully inspected by the relief commander before being allowed to assume the duty of protecting the tomb.
