Cmdr. Kelly Cartwright, chief staff officer for U.S. Navy Music, has her new shoulder boards replaced by friends and family during her promotion ceremony May 1, 2026, in the historic Sail Loft onboard the Washington Navy Yard, home of the United States Navy Band. Cmdr. Cartwright’s career includes tours as the executive officer of the U.S. Navy Band, director of U.S. Naval Forces Europe and Africa Band, director of Fleet Band Activities, fleet bandmaster of the U.S. Pacific Fleet Band, director of Navy Band Mid-South and assistant director of U.S. Fleet Forces Band. Cartwright enlisted in the Navy in 1998 as an oboe instrumentalist and commissioned as a limited duty band officer in 2009.
