U.S. service members assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border empty their rucksacks to prepare for equipment inspections after completing a 12-mile ruck march during Day 10 of Air Assault training at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, April 30, 2026. The candidates, including U.S. Soldiers and Marines, carried 35-pound loads to demonstrate the physical endurance and attention to detail required for successful air assault operations. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
