On April 30, 2026, the Deputy Commanding General of the U.S Army Corps of Engineers, Maj. Gen. Jason E. Kelly, visited Chicago Harbor Lock alongside Chicago District leadership and personnel. Waterways Project Officer, Mike Walsh, informed Maj. Gen. Kelly on the importance of the Chicago Harbor Lock, in addition to the Lockport and T.J. O'Brien Locks, for keeping the nation's commerce flowing between the Great Lakes and the Inland Navigation System. Walsh received a coin for his contributions and leadership for delivering this valuable mission for the nation.
