On April 30, 2026, the Deputy Commanding General of the U.S Army Corps of Engineers, Maj. Gen. Jason E. Kelly, visited Chicago Harbor Lock alongside Chicago District leadership and personnel. Lockmaster Kyle Zugel lead the team through a tour around the lock to discuss lock operations, as well as the lock's critical contributions to flood risk reductions for the city of Chicago, and the importance of the lock as a navigation nexus linking Lake Michigan to the Inland Navigation System.
