Illinois Army National Guard 1st Lt. Jacob Harris encourages Gold Star Mission scholarship recipients to learn the story about the name on their scholarship during the Gold Star Mission Scholarship banquet in Springfield March 21. Harris is a two-time scholarship recipient, who enlisted in the Illinois National Guard in 2019, graduated from the Illinois State Police Academy in 2023 and was commissioned as an Army Engineer officer after graduating from the Illinois Army National Guard Officer Candidate School in 2024. Most recently, he returned from an overseas deployment to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.
