U.S. Army Spc. Richard Nguyen, a biomedical equipment specialist assigned to the 354th Medical Logistics Company, 341st Medical Battalion, 176th Medical Brigade hooks up a cargo load to a hovering UH-60 Black Hawk from the 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division as part of a sling load training exercise during Operation Freedom Shield 2026 at the U.S. Army Medical Materiel Center-Korea, Camp Carroll, South Korea, Mar. 12, 2026. Soldiers learned about proper techniques used to sling the helicopter’s cargo to prevent components from interfering with the aircraft’s movement to ensure the safety and readiness of personnel and equipment during the joint defensive exercise conducted annually by the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the United States under the ROK–U.S. Alliance. The exercise strengthens combined readiness, enhances operational command and control, and ensures both nations remain prepared to respond to any threat on the Korean Peninsula.
