US Embassy leader observes multinational medical mission in Northern Kenya

Carla Benini, acting deputy chief of mission for the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, speaks with Kenya Defence Forces leaders and U.S. Army Lt. Col. Amanda Owens, civil affairs officer assigned to U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), during Justified Accord 2026 Medical Civic Action Program (MEDCAP) outreach activities at Laresoro, Kenya, Feb. 27, 2026. Her visit highlighted U.S. diplomatic support for the multinational medical engagement and the partnership between U.S., Kenyan, and international forces working alongside local health providers to deliver care in remote communities.

JA26 increases multinational interoperability in support of humanitarian assistance and crisis response, prepares regional partners for missions with the United Nations and African Union, and builds readiness for the U.S. joint force. Led by SETAF-AF and hosted in Djibouti, Kenya and Tanzania, the exercise brings together personnel from approximately 15 nations and is U.S. Africa Command’s largest exercise in East Africa.
