Jefrey Van Buren, an orthopedic surgeon, both with 3rd Medical Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, treat a simulated casualty in the Forward Resuscitative Surgical Suite during Kaizen-X at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan, Feb. 24, 2026. Sailors with 3rd Medical Battalion conducted advanced casualty care training in a Role 2 setting during Kaizen-X, performing life-saving casualty care on simulated patients to enhance expeditionary medical readiness. The training incorporated a comprehensive, multi-tent medical system designed to stabilize, treat, and prepare casualties for evacuation, including en route care, forward resuscitative surgery, holding, and ancillary support capabilities that replicate real-world combat medical operations.
