Sgt. Logan McLaughlin, Combat Engineer, 744th Engineer Company, Joint Task Force-Southern Border, conducts a patrol with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents along the Rio Grande in Del Rio, Texas, Jan. 27, 2026. Patrols along the Rio Grande river allow for better detection of breaches which increases apprehensions of illegal aliens. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
