North Carolina National Guard soldier, Staff Sgt. Nicole Zarate, gets a picture with her bicycle at NCNG Joint Force Headquarters in Raleigh, N.C., June 3, 2013. Zarate and ten others will ride more than 4,200 miles over the next three months, beginning on June 10 in Astoria, Ore., and ending in Yorktown, Va. The riders will take all of the gear with them using the TransAmerica Trail that extends across the entire United States. The riders are cycling to raise awareness and money for the Wounded Warrior Project; 100% of the funds raised by the cyclists goes towards the worthy cause. “I am an avid cyclist and runner and I am always looking for the next greatest challenge,” said Zarate.
