Dr. Frank Narducci, NPS professor of physics and winner of the latest Richard W. Hamming Faculty Teaching Award, explains concepts in quantum sensing to students in his Spanagel Hall lab on the NPS campus. Narducci is leading the development of a large atomic fountain laboratory for experimentation in quantum sensing supporting precision navigation in GPS denied environments, among several other naval applications. When complete, the exceptionally precise atomic-based instrument will be one of the largest of its kind. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Janiel Adames)
