Frank Ponds, the commander of Navy Region Hawaii and Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific, boards the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force helicopter destroyer JS Hyuga (DDH 181) May 16, 2013, in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The Hyuga made a scheduled port visit to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, during exercise Dawn Blitz 2013. Dawn Blitz is a multilateral amphibious exercise designed to strengthen the skills of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps as well as several partner nations.
