A processor removes the limbs and cuts logs to length at a timber sale on Hume Creek in the St. Joe Ranger District. This sale is using “in unit processing,” which means a processor drives into the unit to process and stack logs before the forwarder arrives to pick them up and drive them up to the landing area. The slash serves as a protective mat for the soil. (Forest Service photo by April Rainey)
