GEORGIA – While most three-year-olds celebrate with cake and presents, Silver Falcon Debora, a distinguished Weimaraner, marked her third birthday on January 20th not only as a beloved companion but as a valued partner in scientific research.

Debora is more than just a pretty face; she is an FCI Champion of Georgia, representing the third generation of Weimaraners from the prestigious Silver Falcon kennel, with a lineage tracing back to the United States. But beyond the show ring, Debora plays a crucial role in a Military Working Dog (MWD) study that is vital for public and military health.

As a participant in the research, Debora provides swab samples that help scientists cultivate and identify multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria, often called "superbugs." Because she shares living spaces with other military working dogs and has a history of travel and exposure to different environments, she is an ideal candidate for monitoring how these resilient bacteria emerge and spread.

Her contribution provides invaluable data for understanding and combating the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance. The research underscores a profound commitment to ethical science, highlighting that groundbreaking work begins with the utmost respect and care for the animals involved.

And care is something Debora receives in spades. Her birthday was a joyous affair, complete with friends, presents, and a special dog-friendly cake.

We join in wishing Debora many more years of happy tail wags, exciting adventures with her MWD friends, and continued success in her contributions to science. Happy Birthday, Debora!
