260129-N-KL637-1111 GREAT LAKES, Ill. (Jan. 29, 2025) – Sailors don their Navy ball cap during the capping ceremony onboard Recruit Training Command (RTC) in Great Lakes, Jan. 29, 2026. The capping ceremony marks recruits becoming Sailors at the end of RTC’s crucible event, Battle Stations. Training is approximately nine weeks and all enlistees in the U.S. Navy begin their career at the command. More than 40,000 recruits train annually at the Navy’s only boot camp.
