U.S. Army Lt. Col. Kevin M. Budak, deputy commanding officer of the 198th Regional Support Group, (RSG) and U.S. Army Lt. Col. Robert M. Thorlin, an operations officer with the 198th RSG, take the stage during a retirement ceremony for Thorlin at Papago Park Military Reservation in Phoenix, January 11, 2026.
Thorlin entered military service in September, 1987 and was commissioned as an infantry officer in the Army National Guard through Officer Candidate School (OCS) in April 2005. Over the course of 27 years of total service, including 20 years of commissioned service, he served in a wide range of leadership, operational, and joint assignments in the U.S. and overseas.
