From left: Mission Package Support Facility (MPSF) contract support team members Reed Broschart, site lead from Northrop Grumman Corp.; Nate Smith, quality analyst with General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS); GDMS engineering technicians Jose Montelongo and Jorje Navarro; and Northrop Grumman engineering technician James Imposimato carefully lower a section of an MK 50 30 mm surface weapon gun mission module to be loaded into a shipping container in the MPSF at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PHD) in California on Nov. 13. The team dismantled the MK 50 to prepare it for shipping to Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, Florida. The gun mission module will be installed on a Freedom-variant littoral combat ship (LCS) in the spring, with assistance from NSWC PHD’s workforce members at the site’s Mission Module Readiness Center. Naval Station Mayport is the Navy’s third-biggest surface fleet concentration area in the continental U.S. and the home of LCS Squadron 2.
