Four Air National Guard members assigned to the 113th Security Forces Squadron were formally recognized for bravery and decisive action during a violent incident on the National Mall during the Department of the Interior Winter Ceremony at the Interior Library in Washington, D.C., Jan. 9, 2026. The Airmen received the newly established U.S. Parkland Award for Outstanding Service and Interagency Partnership. About 2,500 National Guard members are supporting the D.C. Safe and Beautiful mission, providing critical assistance to the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department to help ensure the safety of residents, commuters and visitors throughout the District.
