    Recruit Training Command Capping Ceremony

260108-N-GR847-1010 GREAT LAKES, Ill. (Jan. 8, 2026) Rear Adm. Gavin Duff, director, Plans and Strategy, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (left), salutes during the capping ceremony on the pier of USS Trayer (BST-21), where recruits complete Battle Stations, at Recruit Training Command (RTC). Battle Stations is the U.S. Navy’s crucible event, which recruits must complete prior to graduation, testing their knowledge and skills in basic seamanship, damage control, firefighting, and emergency response procedures. RTC conducts approximately nine weeks of training for all U.S. Navy enlistees, marking the beginning of their naval careers. More than 40,000 recruits train annually at the Navy’s only boot camp.
