U.S. Army Spc. Bikas Soti Nagar (right), of B Company, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, successfully starts a fire using stone and steel under the guidance of Malaysian army counterparts at Perak, Malaysia, on July 20, 2025. The techniques taught in the course included identifying and using various plants, traps and snares, shelter types and edible local wildlife. The training was part of Exercise Keris Strike, a bilateral military exercise between the U.S. and Malaysian armies that is a key event for strengthening military partnerships and regional security in the Indo-Pacific.
