Newly appointed dedicated crew chiefs raise their hand to pledge adherence to the Mechanic’s Creed during a ceremony at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, Oct. 31, 2025. The Mechanic’s Creed was penned by the “father of aviation safety” Jerome Lederer in 1941; the creed’s first appearance was in 1953 on the back cover of the first several issues of the Flight Safety Foundation’s Aviation Mechanics Bulletin.
