Brig. Gen. Rory Crooks, deputy commanding general - operations for the 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss, leads the countdown during the annual Christmas Tree lighting event at Center Chapel One on Fort Bliss, Texas, Dec. 5, 2025. In a longstanding tradition recognizing families separated by service, Crooks invited the child of a currently deployed Soldier to join him on stage to flip the switch. Hosted by the Fort Bliss Religious Support Office and Fort Bliss MWR, the event marked the official start of the holiday season for the community, which celebrated with real snow, carnival games, and musical performances by the 1st Armored Division Band.
