U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Robert Thagon, geospatial intelligence specialist with Combat Logistics Battalion 6, Combat Logistics Regiment 2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, explains the capabilities of the R80D Skyraider to Brig. Gen. Maura Hennigan, commanding general of 2nd MLG, during Exercise Freezing Winds 2025 in Dragsvik, Finland, Dec. 4, 2025. As the Marine Corps prepares for operations in increasing contested environments, 2nd MLG Marines are starting to employ the training, education, and operational support of small, unmanned aircraft systems. Freezing Winds is conducted to increase interoperability between Marines, Finland, and NATO Allies by executing combined amphibious operations in and around the Baltic Sea littorals, and is part of a regularly occurring series of exercises in northern Europe that demonstrates the capability to deploy and train Marines and Sailors in support of the NATO Alliance.
