Surface Warfare Engineering Schools Command (SWESC) Great Lakes Machinery Repairman Schoolhouse holds Remembrance Ceremony in honor of MR3 Jack Valentine

NAVAL STATION GREAT LAKES (December 4, 2025) — Family members of Machinery Repairman 3rd Class Jack Valentine, center, gather in the Surface Warfare Engineering School Command (SWESC) Great Lakes Machinery Repairman Schoolhouse with Chief Machinery Repairman Thomas Evans, left, and Chaplain Lt. j.g. Sean Hicks during a remembrance ceremony in honor of Petty Officer Jack Valentine, Dec. 4, on board Naval Station Great Lakes. Petty Officer Valentine was killed during a boiler explosion in 2006 aboard the Emory S. Land-class submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS 40). The family members of Petty Officer Valentine spoke to the Sailors about the legacy he left behind. SWESC is responsible for providing technical training to every surface Navy engineer, quartermaster, boatswain and deck seaman; preparing each Sailor to perform on U.S. Navy ships operating around the globe.
