NAVAL STATION GREAT LAKES (December 4, 2025) — Chief Machinery Repairman Thomas Evans, left, speaks to students, instructors, and Valentine Family members at the Surface Warfare Engineering School Command (SWESC) Great Lakes Machinery Repairman Schoolhouse during a remembrance ceremony in honor of Machinery Repairman 3rd Class Jack Valentine, Dec. 4, on board Naval Station Great Lakes. Petty Officer Valentine was killed during a boiler explosion in 2006 aboard the Emory S. Land-class submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS 40). Family members of Petty Officer Valentine also spoke during the ceremony about the legacy he left behind. SWESC is responsible for providing technical training to every surface Navy engineer, quartermaster, boatswain and deck seaman; preparing each Sailor to perform on U.S. Navy ships operating around the globe.
