Brig. Gen. Leland D. Blanchard II, Commanding General (Interim) of the D.C. National Guard, is awarded the Distinguished Service Medal by retired Army Maj. Gen. John C. Andonie, former Commanding General of the D.C. National Guard, at the D.C. Armory, Dec. 3, 2025. Brig. Gen. Blanchard was recognized for exceptionally meritorious service as the Land Component Command (LCC) commander (2022-2024), and as the Adjutant General (2024-2025) of the D.C. National Guard. The Distinguished Service Medal (U.S. Army) is a high-level military award for exceptionally meritorious service in a duty of great responsibility that requires outstanding contributions over an extended period, and it is often awarded to general officers or senior officials.
