A group of research students and advisors pose in a flume during the U.S. Coastal Research Program’s Sediment Transport Collaborative Laboratory Experiment, or SEDCOLAB, hosted by the U.S. Engineer Research and Development Center’s Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory in Vicksburg, Miss., Aug. 8, 2025.
The team from the University of Washington, Oregon State University and Stanford University used the flume to investigate how waves move sand along the shoreline. By combining laboratory results with numerical modeling, the team aims to provide coastal managers with better predictions on how beaches evolve over time.
