Gold Star Father Kevin Rodgers of Bloomington, Ill., hugs U.S. Army Survivor Outreach Services Coordinator Michelle Rutherford during the American Gold Star Families’ Fallen Heroes Tree of Honor Tree Lighting Ceremony on Monday, Nov. 17, at Central Illinois Regional Airport in Bloomington, Ill. Rodgers and his spouse, Vonda, affixed an ornament with the name of their son, U.S. Army Sgt. Joshua P. Rodgers, on the Christmas Tree. Sgt. Rodgers was killed April 27, 2017 fighting ISIS in the Nangarhar Province of Afghanistan. Brig. Gen. Lenny Williams, the Assistant Adjutant General – Army of the Illinois National Guard and the Commander of the Illinois Army National Guard, served as a speaker at the event.
