Dallas Spencer, the lead driller and crew chief with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Fort Worth District's Geotechnical Branch, prepares to bore an 8-inch hole into the ground to sample the subsurface earth to determine material composition. The team will bore a total of 12 holes with sections of the soil samples placed in mason jars and sent to a labratory for testing. Results of the test will determine engineering requirements for the project.
