U.S. Marines participate in Marine Corps Combat Marksmanship Program table 5 to increase lethality and combat readiness

U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Fernando Zarate, an air defense systems technician with 2nd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, Marine Air Control Group 28, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, fires an M4 service rifle during a live-fire range as part of Exercise Freezing Winds 2025 in Syndalen, Finland, Nov. 14, 2025. The purpose of the Marine Corps Combat Marksmanship Program Table 5 is to assess and enhance a Marine’s ability to effectively engage targets at varying distances and under different conditions, ensuring proficiency in marksmanship, combat readiness, and adaptability in diverse operational environments. Freezing Winds is conducted to increase interoperability between Marines, Finland, and NATO Allies by executing combined amphibious operations in and around the Baltic Sea littorals, and is part of a regularly occurring series of exercises in northern Europe that demonstrates the capability to deploy and train Marines and Sailors in support of the NATO Alliance. Zarate is a native of Puerto Rico. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Bryan Giraldo)
