Air Force Capt. (Dr.) Laura Barrera, flight surgeon for Moody Air Force Base in Georgia, shares her journey from senior airman to flight surgeon and emergency physician. The program, known as EMDP2, puts enlisted service members on a path to becoming military physicians through coursework, mentorship, and medical school preparation. At the heart of her journey is taking care of the patient. “I like being the one that people depend on,” Barrera said.
