Mauricio Puerto, facilities team lead at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division, descends from the 11,053-foot summit of Mammoth Mountain in California’s Sierra Nevada on Sept. 26 during the Mammoth 200 ultramarathon. After running up the mountain, Puerto and other competitors traversed backcountry trails around pristine lakes, through pine forests, past fields of lava rock and over alpine passes — for a total of about 220 miles.
