A group of U.S. Army soldiers in ACU (Army Combat Uniform) camouflage, accompanied by a few civilians, are walking along a paved path past a damaged or deliberately constructed urban warfare training facility. Smoke and flames are visible emanating from one of the concrete block structures to the right, suggesting an active training exercise or demonstration is underway. The setting appears to be a military training installation with mock urban structures designed to simulate combat environments.

Gen. John F. Campbell, U.S. Army vice chief of staff, and Maj. Gen. Kevin R. Wendel, commanding general First Army, walk with Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger, adjutant general of Indiana through a urban disaster area, one of the unique training venues at Muscatatuck, near Butlerville, Ind., May 18. The urban area included a submerged city block, collapsed buildings, fire, smoke and realistic sounds and smells. While touring the training facilities, Campbell visited members of the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy assigned to the Provincial Reconstruction Teams and other civilian contractors preparing for deployment overseas, aerial flights, and ground tours observing the more 35,000 acres of maneuver training areas located at Atterbury near Edinburgh, Ind., as well as observing the nearly 1,000-acre, world-class advanced urban training facilities located at Muscatatuck near Butlerville, Ind.
