Norfolk, Va. (Oct. 1, 2025) – Brandon Markey, Military Sealift Command’s Damage Control Leader, received the Navy Civilian Service Commendation Medal for his meritorious service while serving aboard USNS Robert E. Peary (T-AKE 5) as the ship’s cargo mate first officer during the vessel’s deployment to the NORTHCOM area of responsibility from August 11–26, 2025. U.S. Navy Captain Jamie A. Murdock, commodore of Military Sealift Command – Atlantic, presented the award during a ceremony at Naval Station Norfolk on September 23, 2025. In addition to recognizing the command for the reward and recognition, Markey also praised the Peary crew for their hard work in making the operation a success. As a symbol of gratitude for outstanding service, the Navy Civilian Service Commendation Medal is given to civilian employees who perform significantly above expectations over an extended period or during a specific achievement.
