On September 18, 2025, during the Drill Sergeant of the Year Competition at Fort Jackson, the Drill Sergeant Association inducted nine individuals who have impressive careers and have made significant contributions to the Drill Sergeant Program into the Hall of Fame. Among the inductees are four alumni from the 108th Training Command: CSM (Ret.) William J. Payne, SGM Andrew J. Palmer, Deputy Commandant for the U.S. Army Drill Sergeant Academy, SFC Jake R. Mrzena, the 2024 Drill Sergeant of the Year and MSG Christopher J. Adame.
The Drill Sergeant Association was founded by CSM Dennis Woods and SGM Thomas Campbell, along with the active and reserve component Drill Sergeants of the Year, SFC David Stover and SFC Ryan McCaffrey. The association originated from a tabletop discussion among these four individuals, driven by a desire to unite those who have served and those currently serving as Drill Sergeants, while recognizing their significant impact on the Army.
On April 1, 2014—marking the 50th year of the Drill Sergeant program—the U.S. Army Drill Sergeant Association was established. Today, the Drill Sergeant Association is a nationally recognized organization that continues to connect former and current Drill Sergeants, serving as a platform to share experiences and promote the profession of Drill Sergeant.
