250902-N-SS900-1009 NAVAL BASE POINT LOMA, Calif. (Sept. 2, 2025) - Chilean Navy Lt. Emilio Araya Mannett, shore detachment officer for Chilean Navy Submarine (CNS) Thomson (SS 20), attends an office call for the Diesel-Electric Submarine Initiative (DESI) at Commander, Submarine Squadron (CSS) 11 Headquarters, Sept. 2, 2025. The DESI program was established in 2001 by U.S. Fleet Forces Command and partners with South American submarine-operating navies as they participate in fleet readiness exercises. CSS 11 is home to four Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarines, capable of supporting various missions, including anti-submarine warfare, anti-ship warfare, strike warfare and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.
