Airmen from the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard and a bugler from the U.S. Air Force Band’s Ceremonial Brass conduct military funeral honors for U.S. Air Force Capt. Wade Holmes in Section 57, Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025.
Holmes entered active-duty service in September 2015. During his time with the Air Force, he served as an F-16 Fighting Falcon pilot and instructor pilot with the D.C. Air National Guard’s 113th Wing. He also served as an F-16 Viper pilot with the 121st Fighter Squadron. A combat veteran with around 200 F-16 combat hours (1,000 hours total in his career), Holmes' military awards included the Air and Space Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, Air and Space Outstanding Unit Award w/ 2 oak leaf clusters, and Combat Readiness Medal w/ 2 oak leaf clusters.
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff U.S. Air Force Gen. Dan Caine presented Holmes’ spouse, Leah Holmes, with the U.S. flag from Capt. Holmes’ funeral service. Holmes’ five children as well as his father, U.S. Air Force retired Gen. James Holmes, were also presented with U.S. flags by Caine following Capt. Holmes’ funeral service.
