PANAMA CITY, Panama – A member of the Panamanian Security Forces operates a drone to provide overwatch and reconnaissance during PANAMAX-ALPHA 2025 off the coast of Panama City, Panama, Aug. 7, 2025.
The Panamanian forces conducted a Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) tactical evolution on a stationary vessel as part of their culminating integrated training exercise in partnership with U.S. Special Operations Forces.
The annual multinational exercise, led by U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), integrates advanced technologies and joint training to strengthen regional capabilities in defending the Panama Canal and countering emerging maritime threats.
PANAMAX-Alpha serves as a cornerstone of SOUTHCOM’s integrated deterrence strategy. The exercise also aligns with broader U.S. national defense objectives—building trust, enhancing readiness, and preserving freedom of navigation in the hemisphere. (Photo by U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr.
