From left to right, Ryanne Pritchard Bee, Santa Barbara Wildlife Care Network, Julie Howar, Point Blue Conservation Science, and Kadi Erickson, International Bird Rescue, celebrate a successful return of four rehabilitated juvenile Pigeon Guillemots to the wild at Vandenberg Space Force Base, Calif, Aug. 6, 2025. The release reflects the power of connected partnerships in protecting California’s coastal ecosystems and marine biodiversity. The Department of the Air Force has been monitoring special status plant and wildlife species at Vandenberg for several decades with launch-specific monitoring occurring since the early 1980’s. Vandenberg has a dedicated environmental team of more than 40 personnel continuing that monitoring process and surveying natural resource resilience.
