A research team from the University of Florida, University of Maryland and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is using the Coastal and Hydraulics Lab’s Large-Scale Sediment Transport Facility to test sediment processes near oyster reefs. The team hopes to gain a better understanding of the fundamental processes dictating sediment transport and morphological variations around the reefs. The data will be used to calibrate a numerical model to help determine which reef geometry maximizes the aggradation for any tidal or wave conditions.
