Illumination rounds light up the night sky as soldiers from the Puerto Rico National Guard’s 296th Infantry Battalion conduct coordinated illumination missions during a night mortar live-fire exercise at Camp Santiago Joint Training Center on July 18, 2025.
The training focused on enhancing the unit’s ability to deliver accurate indirect fire support in low-visibility conditions, a critical skill in combat operations.
By mastering night-fire and illumination techniques, soldiers increase their tactical effectiveness, battlefield awareness, and overall readiness for real-world missions.
