Michael Dosedel, left, 11, has had to wear a fixator on his right thigh twice while the femur is being lengthened and a third bone- lengthening session is upcoming. Radiation treatment for cancer kept the femur in Michael's right leg from growing. He and his mother worked together to create "fixator pants" that completely cover the fixator and keep the dust and dirt away from open wounds. This was her very first pair and what she described as a learning experience. Air Force Lt. Col. Stefan Dosedel, center, also known as Dad, is an occasional model for the pants project. And brother Thomas, right, 9, helps cutting out the patterns. The pants, refined from the first attempt, are big hits with the fixator patients at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington.
