YOKOSUKA, Japan (July 1, 2025) — Cmdr. Mary Piliwale, associate director for public health, and Lt. Cmdr. Asa Schaefer, chief information officer at United States Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command (USNMRTC) Yokosuka, won the Other Process Improvement category in the 2025 Naval Medical Forces Pacific Continuous Process Improvement Project Competition. Piliwale, of Kapolei, Hawaii, and Schaefer, of Decatur, Illinois, were recognized for their project, “Increase Mass Vaccination Efficiency and Documentation Compliance,” which addressed inefficiencies in NMRTC Yokosuka’s manual mass vaccination process. Their improvements reduced patient wait times and improved post-vaccination documentation compliance. (U.S. Navy photo by Daniel Taylor/USNMRTC Yokosuka Public Affairs)
