Lt. Christian Oswald, a newly commissioned U.S. Air Force pilot trainee, takes part in an incentive flight aboard an Alaska Air National Guard KC-135 Stratotanker during Red Flag-Alaska 25-2, June 24, 2025. The flight, hosted by the 168th Wing, gave trainees currently supporting Red Flag operations while awaiting the start of formal flight training a unique opportunity to observe firsthand an aerial refueling mission. Watching the operation from the boom operator’s perspective provided valuable insight into the coordination, precision, and teamwork required between tanker and receiver aircraft, knowledge they will carry forward as future fighter pilots. The trainees also engaged with civic leaders during the flight, helping build connections between the next generation of Air Force aviators and the local community.
