Michael Hopkins, the son of the late U.S. Marine Corps 1st Lt. Joseph Hopkins who fought in the Battle of Okinawa, pays his respects during an Okinawa Memorial Day ceremony at “The Cornerstone of Peace” in Peace Memorial Park, Mabuni, Itoman City, Okinawa, Japan, June 23, 2025. The ceremony is a yearly event, hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Okinawa and USO Okinawa, that commemorates the end of the Battle of Okinawa.
