U.S. Air Force Col. Kevin Heath, Alaskan Command Director of Operations, introduces a group of U.S. joint force personnel to Operation Colony Glacier’s overall recovery mission, at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, June 16, 2025. In his opening remarks, Heath emphasized the impact the mission has had on the families of the 52 service members killed when a C-124 Globemaster II crashed into Chugach Mountains in November 1952. “When you hear some of those specific stories, it'll really hit home. They're still finding whole pieces of human remains and it's that closure that people need.
