    31st Marine Expeditionary Unit

A U.S. Marine Corps helicopter crew chief with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 265 (Rein.), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, watches the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) from a CH-53E Super Stallion, assigned to VMM 265 (Rein.), 31st MEU, during a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Response Element exercise in the Coral Sea, June 20, 2025. The Marines conducted response in a simulated unknown hazardous environment to verify the extent of the hazard, identify the materials, and provide updates to protect the force. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the USS America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations, the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
